Assured Energy fix metering issues for Atlantic Hotel

Assured Energy can help businesses to take advantage of lower market prices even if they are locked into a fixed-term contract.

‘Blend and extend’ tariffs are available for commercial customers, particularly if they are attached to unit charges that are much higher than today’s rates.

This can ‘blend’ their terms with current market conditions, resulting in a new unit price as part of an extended contract, usually for 12 or 24 additional months.

Such a blend and extend deal has made £31,000 of cost savings for the Atlantic Hotel in Tenby, Wales, thanks to Assured Energy and consultant Mark Ludford.

The Atlantic Hotel is owned by a charity, the South Wales Miners Welfare Trust Fund Scheme, which is controlled by trustees.

The initial enquiry from their book-keeper, Andrew, was to sort out the site’s existing metering and ensure value for money.

Variable rate meters have since been secured for the hotel and tied into contracts, which will be the case when their other meter points come up for renewal.

Andrew said: “I have established a working relationship with Mark, concerning a plethora of meters in situ at a hotel, where I have started book-keeping services.

“In the process, I became responsible for their energy contracts and, when it comes to overheads, utilities are the hotel’s second biggest outlay.

“As soon as I spoke to Mark, we were on the same wavelength on how to mitigate costs. Accessing the blend and extend scheme was a no-brainer.

“Metering was an issue for us, we had nine on-site and Mark worked with us to gather all of the relevant information, so that we could become more organised.

“Issues relating to energy suppliers can cause problems, but common sense can now prevail as we tighten up our proceedures.

“Mark has been extremely obliging in assisting me to piece the proverbial jigsaw together, which has made a positive difference.

“Going forward, the business can look towards streamlining costs and, hopefully, increasing buying power at their next contract renewal.”
